If we are saved and completely forgiven is there anything we need to do in regard to the forgiveness of sins? Yes. It’s all about relationship.
Every time we sin it grieves God. He knows it hurts us and it puts stress on the relationship. This is where asking for forgiveness comes in.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Think of a relationship you have where something went wrong. Something you did. Did it strain the relationship? Fellowship is weakened or broken, conversation is difficult or stopped. Trust is affected. But when forgiveness is sought and given, the relationship can be restored.
This is relational forgiveness. God has already forgiven us and wants close fellowship with us.
When we confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, we agree with God that we messed up and need the righteousness he alone can provide, we're reminded of God’s amazing love and the finished work of Jesus Christ.
When we know and understand that God has already forgiven us, we’ll keep asking God for forgiveness with confidence knowing he’ll give it to us.
Romans 8:1-2
8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
KJV
Heb 4:16
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
